At 2:30 p.m. on May 10, 1996, Lene Gammelgaard became the first Scandinavian woman to summit Mount Everest as a member of Scott Fischer's Mountain Madness team. In Climbing High: A Woman's Account of Surviving the Everest Tragedy (Seal, $25.00), she recounts the weeks leading up to the summit day and the devastating night spent in a huddle with seven other climbers during the raging storm. She will present slides and sign copies of her book.

Gayle Weinstein, a Naturalist for the City and County of Denver, will show slides and sign her Xeriscape Handbook: A How-To Guide to Natural, Resource-wise Gardening (Fulcrum, $24.95), an easy-to-follow guide to creating a water-wise garden in any climate. Environmental factors such as regional weather conditions, microclimates, soil, water, and plant relationships are presented with the "seven Xeriscape principles" and good gardening techniques.

Lili Cooper of PaineWebber in Boulder will present a seminar for women who understand investing, but want to learn more strategies that work. You'll learn to manage your investments in volatile markets, determine your individual risk tolerance, and develop strategies for wealth accumulation and retirement planning. Free and open to the public.

Learn how to nurture yourself at this event with Sheila Griffin, author of the new book and journal Nurture (Mystic Moon, $14.00).
