MAY-LEE
CHAI & WINBERG CHAI
Monday July 9, 7:30 p.m.
Ruth Tsao Chai was
born in China at the beginning of the 20th
century. She was one of the first women admitted
into a Chinese university in an era when most
women were illiterate and had bound feet, and
further defied tradition by refusing an arranged
marriage. Her intuition kept the family alive
during WWII, and later enabled them to immigrate
to America. MAY-LEE CHAI & WINBERG CHAI tell
her remarkable story in The Girl from Purple
Mountain (Thomas Dunne, $24.95).

MIMI SHANNON
Tuesday July 10, 7:30 p.m.
Self-Love, The
Crown Jewel (Sowelu Press, $16.95) by local
author MIMI SHANNON presents a new paradigm for
self-acceptance. While popular culture measures
our value by outside opinion, self-love brings it
back to home base and into our own discretion;
through this repositioning comes the freedom of
self-determination and the joy of living in
integrity with self.
MARC
MUENCH
Wednesday July 11, 7:30 p.m.
From the
impossibly jagged peaks and glassy waters of the
Front Range to the long, golden grasses of the
eastern plains of the state, this tour of
Colorado will dazzle you. In Colorado (Graphic Arts, $39.95),
MARC MUENCH and his father, master photographer
David Muench, provide us with incredible new
images of Colorado's natural wonders through all
four seasons.

CAROL
GREVER GRAY
Tuesday July 17, 7:30 p.m.
After 30 years of
marriage, local author CAROL GREVERs
husband told her he was gay. This disclosure led
her on a five-year, soul-searching journey,
culminating in her book My Husband is Gay (Crossing Press, $14.95),
a road map for women in similar situations. The
passages to wholeness exemplify forgiveness,
growth, healing, and hope. This is an essential
guide for any woman seeking understanding in the
midst of crisis.

TODD
BALF
Wednesday July 18, 7:30 p.m.
Some say that the
hidden valleys and waterfalls of the Tsangpo
River are the Shangri-La of Tibetan legend. In
its sudden plunge of 10,000 vertical feet through
the Tsangpo Gorge, the river runs off the scale
of technical challenge for kayakers. The Last River (Three Rivers, $13.00) by
TODD BALF is the story of the first attempt by
kayakers to descend the gorge, a feat no less
monumental than Hillarys first ascent of
Everest.

SHAMBHALA,

DR.
JOHN GOTTMAN
Tuesday July 24, 7:30 p.m.
Bucking the trend
of psychology of the past decade, DR. JOHN
GOTTMAN has zeroed in on how emotions rather than
thoughts drive the system of our personal and
interpersonal well-being. In The Relationship Cure (Crown, $24.00), Gottman
presents a revolutionary five-step program for
repairing troubled relationships in our lives,
including those with our spouses, parents,
children, bosses, and coworkers.

DAVE
WANN
Wednesday July 25, 7:30 p.m.
affluenza, n. a
painful, contagious, virally transmitted
condition of overload, debt, anxiety, and waste
resulting from the dogged pursuit of more. Affluenza (Berrett-Koehler, $24.95),
coauthored by local resident DAVE WANN, uses the
whimsical metaphor of a disease to tackle a very
serious subject: the damage done by the obsessive
quest for material gain that has been the core
principle of the American Dream since WWII.

TOM WELLS
Thursday July 26, 7:30 p.m.
In March 1971,
Daniel Ellsberg gave The New York Times access to
a classified government report revealing the
secret history of the Vietnam War. The release of
the Pentagon Papers exploded in controversy, and
Ellsberg was indicted for espionage. Wild Man (Palgrave, $32.50) by TOM
WELLS is the first biography of the man at center
stage in one of the most remarkable periods in
American history.

ERIKA
KROUSE
Tuesday July 31, 7:30 p.m.
Each of the
thirteen stories in local author ERIKA
KROUSEs new collection Come Up and See Me
Sometime (Scribner, $22.00) is underscored
by the timeless, ever-brassy spirit of Mae West,
pop cultures original Liberated Woman. Ms
Wests uncompromising sass and singleness
stand as both compliment and telling counterpoint
to the diverse array of serious young women we
meet in the book.
